We want to say a huge thank you to you all for being here to celebrate our 10th birthday with us. It’s been an incredible 10 years and we wouldn’t have got here without you. From Ed and Chris roasting, just the two of them, in the arches in Chadwick Court, to growing to a team of eleven – it’s been a wild ride! We’ve moved sites, bought a massive 60 kilo roaster and seen through a global pandemic… whaaaaat?! We absolutely have you to thank. So thank you, from everyone at Neighbourhood Coffee.

Right, now we’ve got that out the way, let’s tell you a bit more about this coffee…

This coffee is quite literally LIP SMACKING. You didn’t think we’d go small for our 10th birthday, did you? We’re celebrating in style with this fully washed coffee from Huabal, Cajamarca in Peru – which is as juicy as it it tasty! Think opal fruits –  loads of raspberry, blackberry, strawberry (well, all the berries really!) but with a refreshing melon note. Like chowing down on a slice of watermelon on a hot summers day. Then there is a touch of lemon brightness. We get lemon drizzle and even lemoncello (that sounds like a party to us!). As light and juicy as this coffee is, it’s also super creamy with notes of vanilla buttercream. Because no birthday is complete without a big dollop of vanilla buttercream.

Our Big 10th Birthday Bean Bonanza (say that 10 times fast before a coffee!) is an incredible fully washed lot from Peru. Its grown by Wilder Garcia, a young producer based in Huabal, Cajamarca – which is a very productive coffee region. Wilder himself owns 23 hectares of land, 16 of which is used for coffee production and the growing conditions are perfect. Between the ambient temperatures, relative humidity and plentiful rainfall, the climate is just what Arabica coffee needs to thrive.

The coffee is fully washed, meaning the coffee cherry is completely removed from the seed. Then it’s left to dry in the sun (ahh to be a coffee bean). The result is big juicy fruit, gentle lemony acidity and subtle sweetness. This coffee has body, so although it’s an absolute treat on filter, it also makes for an exciting espresso. In a flat white, we get birthday cake made with sweet, juicy strawberries and buttercream. Now doesn’t that sound yum?
