Everything You Need to Know About Washed Ethiopian Coffee

Ethiopia is known as the birthplace of coffee, with its washed beans known for their excellent clarity offering complex fruit flavours that almost resembles a fruit tea. This particular single origin is an excellent example, grown in the region of Yirgacheffe by a group of 650 smallholders who utilise the Worka Wuri wet mills to process this delicate but intensely vibrant coffee.

The town of Gedeb benefits from high altitudes between 1900m – 2100m, fertile soil and consistent rains, allowing these expert farmers the perfect conditions to harvest grade 1 coffee beans.

Ethiopian Specialty Coffee Review: Tasting Notes

When our team first cupped this washed coffee, we were immediately struck by its sweet, floral aroma and vibrant flavour profile. The first sip delivers a burst of peach iced tea and tart raspberry, which gently settles into a juicy hint of mango. Crisp, delicate, and beautifully balanced, these beans shine when brewed black using a manual pour-over. That said, don’t sleep on it as an espresso, it makes for a delightfully complex and lively shot!
