What Is An AeroPress?

The Aeropress all started with Alan Adler. Frustrated by the lacklustre brewing options on the market, the inventor set out to build a better way to brew coffee using immersion and rapid air pressure to create a perfect cup of coffee which can be had on the go due to its portable design!

What began as a personal project spiraled into a global phenomenon, spawning a whole family of AeroPress models for every type of coffee lover.

How do I use an Aeropress?

  1. Grind 15g of coffee beans into a medium/fine consistency
  2. Heat 200ml of water to 97°C, (if you only have access to a kettle boil your water and leave for around 2 minutes to cool.
  3. Assemble the Aeropress – Pull plunger from chamber and leave to the side. Unscrew the cap, place in one filter paper and rinse with warm water to remove the papery taste
  4. Screw cap back onto the Aeropress and place over your chosen cup.
  5. Add 15g of ground coffee into the Aeropress and shake gently to level.
  6. Pour over 200g of water (if you have no scales fill to the 3 marker.)
  7. Use a stirrer to agitate the coffee for 3 seconds and then place the plunder a 1/2 inch into the chamber and pull up slightly to create a vacuum
  8. Leave the coffee for 1 minute
  9. Push down on the plunger, using consistent pressure, until all the coffee has left the chamber.

What is the best grind size for an AeroPress?

We would suggest a medium to fine grind which is similar to sea salt, however to make things easier you can simply select ‘AeroPress’ when ordering and we will take care of the grinding!

What is the AeroPress inverted method and is it better?

The AeroPress inverted method involves assembling the equipment upside down, which allows for full immersion as prevents water dripping through. It being a better method is up to the person, but personally we find this gives a a fuller bodied flavour to the coffee where as the original method gives you more clarity/acidity.

If you fancy giving the inverted method a go heres how to do it:

  1. Grind 15g of coffee beans into a medium/fine consistency
  2. Heat 200ml of water to 95°C, (if you only have access to a kettle boil your water and leave for around 2 minutes to cool.
  3. Unscrew the AeroPress cap, place in one filter paper and rinse with warm water to remove the papery taste
  4. Assemble the AeroPress – Pull plunger down the chamber until it aligns with the last number, then place it on a level countertop, standing upwards.
  5. Add 15g of ground coffee into the AeroPress and shake gently to level.
  6. Pour over 200g of water (if you have no scales fill to the 3 marker.)
  7. Use a stirrer to agitate the coffee for 3 seconds, screw cap back onto the AeroPress and then leave for 2 minutes to steep.
  8. Place your chosen cup over the end of the AeroPress and quickly flip it so the AeroPress so it is now right side up. (Caution this liquid can be hot and cause burns so please flip carefully).
  9. Slowly press down on the plunger (making sure the cup is on a flat surface until all the coffee has left the chamber.
  10. Enjoy!
