THIS IS PERFECT FOR:
Rwanda, Tumba Mill, Fully Washed Process
Rwanda has a reputation for producing amazing coffee and this year’s Lot #45 offering from the Tumba mill in the northern province of the country is no exception. With high altitude, optimal rainfall and an abundance of bourbon varietals it’s perfect for growing delicious coffee, with sweet, juicy and fruity flavour notes. Coffee in Rwanda is produced by groups of small holders organised into cooperatives, with around half a million small parcels of land thought to be owned across the country. These small holder farmers deliver their ripe coffee cherry to local mills, either co-operatively or privately owned.
Founded in 2007, the Tumba mill is still owned and run by one of its founding members and local resident and former teacher, Venuste Mugiraneza. His ten plus years of passion and hard work shine through with the coffees that come through his mill. He is also a big supporter of the local farming communities through investing in farmer extension services, and is a great example of how the coffee industry can have a positive impact on a local area.
In the cup this coffee shines through most brewing methods! In filter we get loads of mandarin and cherry sweetness with a little bit of pomegranate, lime thrown in and hints of caramel. In espresso, it’s super bright and bursting with orange citrus with cherry following just behind. In milk, expect a sophisticated caramel sweetness with hint of spiced fruit and cherry Bakewell tart.
Delicious however you decide to brew, baby!
