The Baratza Encore is an entry-level electric grinder that a few of us have been using in our homes for a few years, with good reason. It’s an ideal first step in to the world of electric grinders; solid, dependable & simple.
This grinder is an excellent first step into electric grinders. Two of the NCR team have had one of these in our kitchens for over 4 years each, and they both still work fantastically well – they’re ideally suited to those who brew Aeropress, mokapots, Hario V60, Chemex & cafetières. You can use them for espresso grinding at one end of the scale, and cold brew at the other, but this is outside of their sweet spot.
The Encore has 40mm stainless steel conical burrs, and spins at low RPM to ensure reduced heat, noise, and static generation in the grinder, whilst ensuring that the beans feed smoothly into the burrs. With 40 grind settings possible from espresso through to cold brew, there’s plenty of scope for tweaking to get the perfect grind size. It’s brilliant for the mid-range, from stovetop/mokapot, through Aeropress, V60, Chemex and cafetière brewing.
The hopper carries up to 227g of beans, and it’ll fit under most overhead kitchen cabinets, standing at just over 35cm tall (allow another 10cm to lift the lid and pour the beans in). The footprint is small, the noise levels as it grinds is acceptable, and it’s simple to clean. For the price, you won’t find anything as good, because in every area, it just… works!
